(about us)
Lox & Chain was founded by Zak and Frei. Business partners, life partners.
The idea was masculine jewellery that actually meant something. In an industry of uninspired pieces, men's jewellery gets overlooked, left to boho beads or gym-bro chains.
Zak and Frei met on Hinge in Sydney, 2018 and spent two years apart before Frei moved to Australia in 2020.
That same year, the pandemic hit. Zak lost his job and struggled with mental health locked up in the city. They left Sydney and moved back to Byron Bay, a small beach town, where Zak grew up.
The idea had been simmering for months by then. Zak had been making things his whole life. Frei was better at the boring stuff. They signed up for a jewellery course and got by on Zak's government payment, about $350 a week, making the first pieces from their bedroom until September 2022. Silver dust on everything. Not glamorous. It worked.
Eventually the work outgrew the bedroom. They spent months looking for a manufacturing partner, not a mass-production factory but a small workshop where every piece gets real craftsmanship, attention to detail, and artisans instead of machines. They found it in Denpasar, Bali and still visit every few weeks.
Thank you for the support. Lox & Chain exists because of the people who wear it. We're not finished, better designs, better pieces, better packaging, better service, every day.
